Mt. SAC students who
are also parents of small children often face child care
challenges. Our Child Development Center is a solution
for many parents who are determined to pursue their educational
goals at Mt. SAC.
The center welcomes all
healthy preschool-age children of students who meet eligibility
requirements. Student-parents must be enrolled in 6 or
more units of credit coursework. Services are available
not only to student-parents, but also to staff and community
parents (community children considered on a space-available
basis).
The Child
Development Center offers the following
three programs:
- State Preschool Program:
This state-funded preschool program is offered free
of charge to 34 low-income eligible student-parents
of 3- and 4-year-old children (4 year olds have priority).
Children must attend Monday through Friday, three hours
a day (morning block hours).
- General Childcare Funding:
This program is offered at a minimum daily fee on a
limited basis for 35 low-income eligible student-parents,
based on the family's gross monthly income.
- Fee Program:
Parents who do not qualify or are not accepted in the
State or General programs may enroll their children
in the College's fee-based program. The fee schedule
is available by contacting the center or visiting its
website.
Enrollment:
Parents must submit an application at the Child Development
Center, Building 9, located behind the campus bookstore.
Admission will be determined after eligibility has been
established, all paperwork completed, and all required
fees paid. State law requires parents to undergo orientation
and an oral interview. For information concerning registration
dates and times, consult the current Mt. SAC Class
Schedule or
contact the center.
