California Nursing Student Association (CNSA) 
Mt. SAC chapter

The Mt. SAC Chapter of the California Nursing Student Association is a state component of the National Student Nurses Association and a professional organization for students.  Membership in this organization provides for local, regional, state and national dialogue among nursing students via meetings, conferences and conventions. Malpractice insurance and a national magazine are available. The local chapter of CNSA interacts with students in the nursing program, students in the Mt. SAC Student Community Associated Student Body, students involved in CNSA from other nursing programs and students involved in NSNA during attendance at National Conventions.

ADVOCATES FOR NURSING STUDENTS (AFNS)

The AFNS was created as the formal mechanism by which students give input and receive feedback from the nursing program. The AFNS consists of elected student representatives and a designated faculty member who meet monthly. Additionally, representatives of AFNS attend faculty meetings and serve on the following committees:  Curriculum, and Program Evaluation. Representatives join faculty in decision-making by consensus.

The AFNS consists of: One representative and one alternate from each semester of the program for each committee.

One representative and one alternate from each year of the program shall attend faculty and advisory meetings.

These positions are voluntary, but carry with them the responsibility to attend a monthly meeting, plus faculty and/or committee meetings that are scheduled throughout the academic year. Representatives must communicate the relevant information to their peers in a timely manner.

AFNS Representative Qualifications

Representatives should be in good academic standing with positive interpersonal and communication skills. He/she must have the ability to maintain confidentiality. In addition, a representative must be willing to commit to the time necessary for role performance.

AFNS representatives are nominated and elected at a general student meeting by a simple majority of students present.
