Mt. SAC Jazz Groups Win Top Honors

Congratulations to our Jazz Ensemble and vocal jazz group, Frontline, each having won first place prizes in their respective divisions at the 52nd Annual Reno Jazz Festival recently held at the University of Nevada, Reno.

This year’s win marks the first time Frontline and director William McIntosh has captured the festival’s top vocal prize.  In addition to the group win, member Tama Shutts won the “Outstanding College Vocal Musician Award.”His renditions of Burt Bacharach’s “Wives and Lovers” and Earth, Wind and Fire’s “Shining Star”earned rave reviews.

Under the direction of Jeff Ellwood, the Mt. SAC Jazz Ensemble captured first place honors in the Community College Band category for the fourth time within the last five years.

We are all very proud of these two incredible ensembles for their teamwork, musicianship and extraordinary leadership.
