For the first time ever, Mt. SAC now rules the community college basketball kingdom. Both men’s and women’s teams won their respective championship games last weekend with decisive victories.
The men’s win marked a significant milestone—their first state championship title in Mt. SAC history, defeating Chaffey College 102-88. The Mounties finished the season with an impressive 29 wins, 3 losses. For the women’s team, it marked their sixth California Community College Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Championship title. They defeated Mt. San Jacinto College 54-41, and completed the season undefeated at 34-0. This was a back-to-back season win for the Mounties, who captured the state title in 2012, then three-peat in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and then in 2004.
Congratulations to the hard-working teams and to the skillful coaching staffs, headed by Clark Maloney (men) and Brian Crichlow (women). (Posted 3-20-13)
