Radiologic Technology Program

Welcome to the Radiologic Technology Program web site.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

This summer, the program is introducing a course in Principles of Computed Tomography (CT) and Exam Review. The course tuition is $299 + $2 service fee. The course will run from June 25 to August 1, 2013 and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings on campus from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm. The course is approved for credit by the ASRT and CEUs will be provided at course completion for licensed technologists attending all meetings. The course is also open to all Radiologic Technology students. For more information, click here. For course registration, go to: http://communityed.mtsac.edu/

Beginning Summer of 2013, the program is reinstating physiology (ANAT 10B) as a prerequisite core course for RAD 61B (in addition to the current requirement of anatomy ANAT 10A) in the first Fall semester. All students starting the program in the Summer intersession of 2013 must complete ANAT 10A and ANAT 10B before they are allowed to continue into the first Fall semester. It is highly recommended that program applicants strive to complete these requirements before entering the program since attempting to complete these Fall prerequisites in addition to the other two (2) program courses during the six-week Summer intersession would be extremely difficult for most students and may exceed the units allowed in the Summer intersession.

ATTENTION APPLICANTS: Effective Spring 2013, the program will no longer accept high school Algebra or Chemistry as prerequisites.

Transfer students seeking credit for coursework completed at other institutions must request variances from the appropriate division dean.

The program highly recommends that program applicants work or volunteer in a healthcare setting to familiarize themselves with various patient situations. This experience may provide valuable insight to the applicant. Without this experience the applicant may be unaware of certain aspects of working in healthcare and patient interactions.

The course of study in Radiologic Technology offered at Mt. SAC and its affiliated hospitals is designed to train students in the diagnostic uses of x-ray as well as the technical skills to use x-ray equipment in both the laboratory and clinical settings. Students learn to operate x-ray equipment, assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease, and to apply proper medical ethics. Students will also learn the nature of radiation, the principles of electricity, the structure of x-ray machines, and the operation of a clinical x-ray department.

Students who complete a total of four (4) regular semesters, two (2) winter, and three (3) summer intersessions of preparation at the College and its affiliated hospitals are eligible to apply for the registry examination through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, and the California Certification of Radiologic Technology with the Department of Public Health.
