When Venus Transits the Sun: On June 5, 2012, the planet Venus will pass directly in front of the Sun. This rare astronomical event will not occur again for another 105 years! This program highlights the 1769 transit with the adventurous expedition by Captain Cook, and explains what to expect for the 2012 transit, how to view the transit safely, and more. One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure: Big Bird, Elmo and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu, take viewers on a journey of discovery to learn about the Big Dipper, the North Star, the Sun, and the Moon. Star Tales: Listen to ancient myths about stars, constellations and planets and learn how to find them from your own backyard. May 4, July 6, Aug. 3, 7 p.m. & 8:30 p.m. for 50 minutes - Recommended for Ages 6+
Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope: Mysterious moons, icy rings and distant galaxies were all unknown before the invention of the telescope. Come see Two Small Pieces of Glass, a full dome digital planetarium show, where you’ll visit a local star party and discover the cosmos through the telescope. Using stunning full dome graphics, the universe is brought within reach at the newly renovated Mt. SAC Randall Planetarium.
