"Online Homework as a Learning Tool and Student Achievement."

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

RameshRamesh D. Arasasingham is a Tenured Senior Lecturer at the University of California, Irvine where he joined the faculty in 1998. His primary teaching responsibilities is in the General Chemistry curriculum. He received his B.S. in chemistry with honors from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka (1983), and his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the University of California, Davis (1988). Research in his group is devoted to both chemical education and inorganic chemistry. In chemistry education, his group is studying, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods, the efficacy of innovative instructional materials and methods such as server-based learning tools on student learning and achievement. In the area of inorganic chemistry, his research interest involves the synthesis, structure, bonding, and optical properties of transition metal complexes. Ramesh has received numerous academic awards and distinctions for his innovative use of technology and dedication to teaching such as Instructional Technology Innovation Award (2008), Lecturer of the Year Award (2006), and Teaching Excellence Award (2003). He is currently in the process of writing a general chemistry textbook.
