The Foundation
needs your help to save one of the great treasures of our community—the
Mt. SAC Planetarium. For 30 years, the planetarium has given
thousands of area students and residents a close-up look at our
remarkable universe. But this aging facility is at risk of closing
its door unless we raise $500,000 to replace the outdated and
unreliable projector.
So
far, half of the needed funds have been raised by the Foundation.
The Foundation recently matched the $7,500 donation by the Mt.
SAC Associated Students (totaling $15,000). In addition, community
organizations have contributed $5,500 so far to the campaign.
“We are so pleased that our students
and community have stepped up to the plate to help save this
wonderful teaching and learning resource,” said Foundation
President Gary Ingham. “They all recognize the importance
of understanding our universe.”
Area service clubs that have contributed to the “Save
Our Planetarium” campaign include the Diamond Bar Women’s
Club, $2,500; the Walnut Valley Women’s Club, $200; the
Covina Rotary Club, $1,048; the Soroptimist Club of Covina-West
Covina, $500; the Kiwanis Club of Walnut Valley, $500; the Industry
Hills Rotary Club, $100; the Irwindale Lions Club, $200; and
the Breakfast Optimist Club of Pomona, $500.If you’d like
to give a tax-deductible donation to the campaign, please contact
Foundation Executive Director Pat Rasmussen at (909) 594-5611,
ext. 4121. Contributions at the $1,000 level and above will
be acknowledged on an “honor wall” in the Planetarium. |
