About the Planetarium

The Mt. SAC Planetarium has been serving the community for nearly 40 years since opening its doors in 1968. The facility is used primarily as an instructional facility (astronomy classes, presentations to local schools) and for public productions that open our remarkable galaxy to the community at large.

More than 2,000 astronomy students have used the facility as a learning lab, and over 6,000 school children come to explore the stars and planets.

The Planetarium facility has a 35-foot-diameter hemispherical dome, seats up to 100 persons, and utilizes multimedia and special-effect technology to present extraordinary programs.

The Planetarium is currently undergoing a major renovation, which includes the replacement of the dated Spitz A3P Star Projector. In its place, a new state-of-the-art Zeiss Skymaster ZKP 3/B Star Projector is being installed. Its high-quality, powerful projection lenses will bring the star-lit skies, the Milky Way, star clusters, nebulae, and the galaxies into precise focus and superb brilliance.
