Starting Your Research (In collaboration with the Writing Center.)
All workshops except “Starting Your Research” are held in the library in room 238.
Students sign up for all workshops except “Starting Your Research” at the library Information Desk or by calling 909 274 4289. To sign up for the “Starting Your Research Workshop,” please go to the Writing Center or call 909 274 5325.
Students working on research assignments may find it helpful to bring their assignment prompts with them to the workshop.
Proof of attendance can be provided to students completing the workshop.

Finding and Evaluating Articles What: Learn how to select and search a library article database, distinguish between
popular and scholarly periodical literature, evaluate articles, and troubleshoot
your searches. Where: Library, Room 238
Finding and Evaluating Books What: Learn how to search a library catalog, evaluate books for academic research, locate books online or in the library, and evaluate and troubleshoot your searches. Where: Library, Room 238
Developing Research Topics What: Learn how to search reliable reference sources for overviews, narrow and broaden research topics, and develop a manageable research topic. Bring your assignment prompt if you have one. Where: Library, Room 238
Researching Career Choices What: Learn how to use government websites to gather career-related information, find books and videos related to careers and job skills, and discover which colleges offer degrees in your chosen field. Where: Library, Room 238
Evaluating Websites What: Learn how to evaluate websites for reliability using criteria such as authority, accuracy, currency, relevance, and purpose. Where: Library, Room 238
Starting Your Research What: Learn how to develop research questions, search a library reference database, and search a library article database. This workshop is held in the Writing Center and is taught by Library faculty and Writing Center staff.
