Module 9:

The Importance of Evaluating Internet Resources

This tutorial will cover why it is so crucial to evaluate information retrieved from the internet, including who places information on the internet, how that information becomes public, and why you must consider certain factors when you’re using that information for academic research as opposed to surfing the web for entertainment. To successfully complete this tutorial, a student will score at least 8 out of 10 on the quiz at the end.

Approximate time to complete: 30 minutes

Measurable Objectives

Upon completing this tutorial, students will be able to:

  • identify the differences freely available and subscription based resources on the Internet
  • define two reasons to save the Internet for last in research
  • identify who puts information on the Internet
  • define why evaluation is an important step when using Internet resources
