Module 6: Using Academic Search Premier

This tutorial will focus on how to do a basic search within the Academic Search Premier database, how to narrow the results by suggested subject headings, how to retrieve the articles found in the search, a variety of ways to expand and narrow search results. Skills learned from this tutorial will be able to be applied to a number of other databases, including all EBSCOhost products. To successfully complete this tutorial, a student will score at least 8 out of 10 on the quiz at the end.

Measurable Objectives

Upon completing this tutorial, students will be able to:

  • navigate through the Academic Search Premier database
  • construct a search using truncation, Boolean operators, and/or phrase searching
  • identify common ways to narrow and/or expand search results
  • identify the difference between a basic and an advanced search
