Dan "Big Thumbs" Wheeler is an expert in all things. Aside from breathing oxygen, his hobbies include step ladder bungee jumping, extreme gardening, testing incredibly dangerous experimental paper airplanes, flinching, and lying to people about his hobbies. Dan has the amazing gift of creating names for things that already exist -- the orange, for example, which he calls a "not-blue." He has been tutoring for six years and claims to be able to teach any subject whatsoever, provided that the subject is English grammar. Dan hopes one day to make something of himself. Perhaps a nice stereo cabinet.

Department Philosophy
As research-based developmental educators, we recognize and value that all learners have their own pathways as well as obstacles to learning. Although we believe students need to assume responsibility for their own learning, we also believe that students learn best in a positive learning environment that includes social interaction. We provide scaffolding through the support structures — the integration of technology, the access to useful resources and professional educators — that help students develop cognitive, metacognitive, and affective strategies.
