Discourse This GroupWare enhances the interaction between students and their instructors. With this system, students respond to their instructor's questions on their computer. The instructor can view the student's responses in real time either on a computer or project on a screen. The student responses allows the instructor an opportunity to evaluate how well the concepts have been understood. In addition, an instructor can provide private feedback to students, or project selected answers on a screen - with or without names for class discussion.

SmartboardSmartboardThe SmartBoard is an interactive whiteboard that turns a computer into a presentation and collaboration tool. With SmartBoard an instructor can control software, access and display information from the Internet, run live video from a camera and deliver CD-Rom presentations - all from a single location by simply touching the Board. An instructor can also use a pen and write over an application to emphasize important concepts. Lecture notes or diagrams can be emailed, printed or saved as HTML pages.

Department Philosophy
As research-based developmental educators, we recognize and value that all learners have their own pathways as well as obstacles to learning. Although we believe students need to assume responsibility for their own learning, we also believe that students learn best in a positive learning environment that includes social interaction. We provide scaffolding through the support structures — the integration of technology, the access to useful resources and professional educators — that help students develop cognitive, metacognitive, and affective strategies.
