Lotus Notes

Lisa Baas demonstrated the features of Lotus Notes and explained the advantages for online instructors and their students.

Call Kate Scott in IET to schedule training for online faculty or departments.

Online Teaching Grant

Dick Ryerson reported that a baseline of online skills was created based on survey results from online instructors. Instructors defined the baseline, and 17 topic areas of skills were determined.

Ten faculty members will receive individual assessments and personalized learning plans.

Academic Senate Report

Terri Beam stated that Academic Senate asked for feedback from the EDC on the requirements for first-time online instructors. She also noted that discussion is continuing in the Academic Senate on the DL Course Proposal Form and Course Development Guide.

Discussion to continue at next meeting.

Introduction to Online Learning

Class ended on April 19, with 14 participants finishing the course. Instructors, Vic Zamora and Terri Beam, felt that those completing the course have a better understanding of what it means to be an online student and a new perspective on how to design their classes. They agreed that the projects and ideas that came out of the class were great.

EDC Membership

Kerry Stern reported that the CIC recommended removing the special programs from the EDC for 2002/03 so the committee can concentrate on Distance Learning. The special programs will now meet once or twice a year and will continue to submit an annual report.

A letter has been sent to Sue Torres, a student who has taken several online courses. She has been invited to join the EDC in Fall, 2002.

The purpose statement of the EDC will be revised to reflect this change. Kerry will ask the Leadership Council to add a representative from DSP&S to the EDC.

 

 

The Associated Students will be contacted if Sue Torres agrees to be on the committee next year.

Distance Learning Plan

First draft of the Faculty Support Plan was distributed and revised.

Student Support Plan will be worked on at the EDC meeting on May 14, 2002.
