Retreat |
Retreat will be Friday, March 9, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm at
Kellogg West. Most of the EDC has registered. Kerry Stern said it was important for
those teaching online to attend and urged all of the EDC to register or at least to
participate in the online discussion. The online discussion will be held March 4-8 and
March 10-16, and will be moderated by Kerry, Terri Beam, Dwight Ayle, and Carol Craig.
It will be a structured discussion using Web Board. Carol will put up a tutorial on how
to use Web Board. A list of invitees was circulated, and Kerry asked if there was anyone
not on the list who should be invited. The retreat will be an information gathering
process designed to help in creating a growth plan for Distance Learning. |

2001 |
Mt. SAC is the site for the Pre-conference to be held
on Sunday, March 25. Kerry noted that there is still a need for many volunteers. |
Blackboard
Demo |
Blackboard™ demo will be held at the EDC meeting
Thursday, March 8, at 11:00 am. Prentice Hall will show publisher content (Chemistry) as
used in Blackboard online learning platform. Kerry said there will be a Blackboard™
concurrent session at the TechEd 2001 conference as well.Glenn Vice noted that there is
a free web site that offers a white board with many features that work well. The site

Summer

Schedule |
Forty-two Distance Learning classes are being offered
in Summer Session 1 and 2. There will be a new layout for the Summer Class Schedule -
each Distance Learning class and its pertinent information will be listed with the full
course offerings, and the Distance Learning section will now contain a list of courses,
titles, reference numbers, and units. |

Policy |
The EDC will need to address the problem of
inappropriate material being posted on discussion boards. Although there has only been
one incident, a recommendation was made to list what is and isn't appropriate to post
and that the EDC should determine a set of procedures and guidelines for faculty to use
for future reference. |

- Chuck Sorcabal will conduct an online tutoring demo in Kerry 's office at 3:30
p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, and the EDC was invited to attend.
- Vic Zamora will attend the Information Competency Conference on Friday, February
23, at Pasadena City College.e Discussion was held regarding online office hours and
the possibilities of combining with on-campus office hours.
- Glenn said there is a new web site, Questia, and it offers an online library with
full-text books and search and writing tools that may be of help to our students.
