Kinesiology and Athletics

Mt. San Antonio College's Kinesiology and Athletics Division has been a leader among community colleges.  Our commitment to Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance is exhibited by our dedication to the health and well-being of our students and community.  Our comprehensive class offerings include physical conditioning, theory, coaching theory, certificate programs, Fire and Law Enforcement Testing (PAT)/Conditioning Program, First Aid/CPR, martial arts/combatives, yoga, dance classes/programs, adapted PE programs, athletic programs and athletic special events.

The Mt. San Antonio College Dance Program has received state-wide recognition for our programs, which are committed to developing versatile artists who excel in careers of performing, choreography and teaching.  Our renowned dance faculty fosters a challenging curriculum and provides individualized attention to students' training.  Our faculty has received many industry awards including 3 Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Awards, 4 Los Angeles Ovation Awards, Grand Prize at the Palm Desert Choreography Festival, and the American College Dance Festival Gala.  Known for the high quality of its productions, the program provides opportunities to perform in two “main stage” productions and one informal production each year;  an extensive annual guest master class series along with guest choreographer residencies help provide an inspirational environment for students.  In addition, each year the Mt. San Antonio Dance Department travels to the American College Dance Festival, giving students the opportunity to perform and take classes from various dance professionals and educators.  Mt. SAC Alumni have been hired as directors of High School dance programs, traveled the world on cruise ships and worked in the commercial dance industry in music videos and on television programs such as “So You Think You Can Dance.”  Our state of the art facilities includes two large dance studios, one well-equipped Pilate’s studio and the Sophia B. Clarke Performing Arts Theater.

Mt. SAC is also home to one of the nation’s largest campuses and most successful community college athletic programs for men and women.  The athletic department has captured 50 California Community College State Championships, 4 National Titles and has consistently finished in the top 4 in the prestigious NATYCAA Cup Award, which nationally recognizes excellence in overall community college athletics.  Mt. SAC’s Athletic Program has captured two NATYCAA Cup titles, 2010-11 and 2008-09, and finished second during four other seasons.  The championship-winning athletic program offers 20 collegiate sports and is an integral part of the College’s overall educational offerings.  Mt. SAC student-athletes excel on the field and in the classroom.  Our ‘WIN' academic support program provides testing, tutoring and counseling services for our student-athletes and serves as a ‘model’ academic support program for other community colleges.

The Division's service to the community is reflected in the Exercise Science/Wellness Center (ES/WC). The ES/WC provides a state of the art work out center, managed by our highly trained staff, for students, faculty, staff and community members.  The center also provides physical fitness testing services for member’s, as well as, local agencies including fire and police.

Mt. SAC annually hosts numerous “world famous” athletic special events including the Mt. SAC Relays, Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational, LA84 Foundation Youth Days Program, Mt. SAC Swim and Diving Invitational Series and the International Pole Vault Camp.  These special events attract over 100,000 participants, coaches and spectators each year, generating millions of dollars into the local economy.
