In Spring, 2012, Mt. San Antonio College will host its fourth annual
Writers' Weekend for Aspiring Writers
from our college, other California colleges, and the surrounding community.
Fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction writers: this is your chance to network, workshop, and create.
You will have the chance to generate work with creative writing exercises, prompts, and activities, and your work can be critiqued and discussed by published writers, publishers, and fellow aspiring writers in a fun and comfortable environment. This will give you a unique look into professional writers' creative processes and a chance to share your knowledge and love of writing with others.
College representatives will explain the options and opportunities available for a degree in creative writing, including Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs in Southern California. Learn about the make-up of these programs and the admission requirements. This will be a great chance to start planning for your future in writing.
If you have aspirations for publishing your work but don't know a lot about how, learn about preparing manuscripts for publication, submitting manuscripts to publishers, and other important information from writers who have published their writing professionally across the country and beyond.
Our guest speakers will discuss the issues most relevant and significant in the writing community today, such as recent and popular trends in literature and creative writing, topics, and themes writers are currently exploring, the challenges writers face, and where literature may be headed in the future.
Open microphone readings are a great way to celebrate and show appreciation for the work all writers do, and, best of all, there's never any pressure to take the microphone yourself. You can just sit back and enjoy the readings and performances with like-minded souls.
Join us in congratulating our Writers' Day Award winners. This is an annual prize open to all Mt. SAC students for work in fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, and critical essays.
We encourage you to bring the following materials with you to Writers' Weekend:
Registration Fee: A registration fee of $50 will cover expenses such as food and guest speakers.
