DEGREE PROGRAMS

Mt. San Antonio College offers two degree programs in the area of Communication studies. Students will develop an understanding of communication strategies, reasoning, logic, and critical analysis in relation to public and interpersonal communication as well as the interrelationship between mass media and society.

OPTION ONE: Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Communication Studies

A broad degree for students with a general interest in the field or focused interest in journalism or radio-­‐TV; no priority admission for Communication major at CSU.

Two required courses (7 units):

Option TWO: Associate of Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer

To earn an Associate of Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer a student must complete 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the CSU that consist of: IGETC pattern or CSU GE breadth and a major of at least 18 units. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all CSU-­‐transferable coursework to receive an associate degree for transfer and all courses in the major must be completed with a C or better. Students earning an associate degree for transfer will not be required to complete any other local graduation requirements.

List A (Select two courses): 6 units

  • SPCH 6 - Group Communication - 3 units
  • SPCH 20/H - Argumentation and Debate (or A&D Honors) - 3 units
  • SPCH 26/H - Interpersonal Communication (or IPC Honors) - 3 units

List B (Select two courses): 5-7 units

  • SPCH 2 - Fundamentals of Communication - 4 units
  • SPCH 4 - Performance of Literature - 3 units
  • SPCH 7/H - Intercultural Communication (or IC Honors) - 3 units

To satisfy list B, students may select one course for a maximum of 3 units from:
