- Working Professional Scholarship - $500 to $1,500 - This program is intended to reward lodging employees who seek to expand their education and knowledge in their current job positions or to expand their education and knowledge in order to be able to obtain a different or better job in the lodging industry. This scholarship is not for individuals who have not yet gone to college but now want to do so; such individuals should apply for the General or Richard Schroeck Scholarship.

- The General Scholarship - $500 to $1,500 - This program
operates to recognize and to assist financially California residents
who have demonstrated a desire to make the lodging industry a career
and have applied to or are enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year
college or university program of lodging management, or, if they are
currently employed in the lodging industry, have applied to or are
enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year college or university program
focusing on courses and subjects relevant and applicable to a career
in the lodging industry.

- The Richard Schroeck Scholarship - $1,000 - This scholarship is awarded annually to hospitality engineers or maintenance personnel and their dependents. In addition to meeting the criteria for the Foundation's general scholarships, applicants must meet one of the following:
- Be an hourly employee currently working as an "engineer" or otherwise in a similar capacity at a CH&LA-member property;
- Be the natural or adopted son or daughter of an hourly employee currently
working as an "engineer" or otherwise in a similar capacity at a CH&LA-member
property.

The purpose of the AH&LEF scholarship programs is to support the educational development of students pursuing an undergraduate degree in hospitality management. All eligible students must be enrolled in hospitality management programs (i.e., hotel administration, hotel/restaurant management, culinary arts, travel and tourism administration). The Foundation distributed a total of $476,000 to 330 students for the 2003 academic year through the following scholarship programs:

Two $2,000 merit scholarships will be awarded to full-time students in the Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Candidate category and two $500 merit scholarships will be awarded to part-time students pursuing Associate, Baccalaureate or Graduate Degrees. The funds will be forwarded to the colleges of the scholarship recipients to be applied directly to their tuition for the next semester. In addition, students will be the guests of the HSMAI Foundation at an upcoming HSMAI industry event. Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals Scholarship

Each year this chapter raises money for the Student Scholarship Fund. The
money is raised through raffle ticket sales at each chapter meeting for
which the prizes are donated by chapter members. The annual scholastic award
is for a minimum of $500. The scholarship money is awarded at the beginning
of the Fall term to a designated hospitality student in order to help with
tuition fees, books and supplies. The Scholarship Chair helps create the
criteria for choosing the designated student. The process of choosing a
student varies slightly from year to year but generally includes an application
