Procedure for Establishing Lab Parity:
The process for establishing lab parity has changed due to changes in faculty contract language (Article 15) effective July 1, 2012.
The following procedures have been established:
-
Courses submitted for teaching lab status must have an approval date of 2007 or later. Directions for determining the most recent approval date for courses in WebCMS can be found on Lab parity request form (link above).
-
The Request for Teaching Lab Status form must be submitted with a copy of the Official Course Outline of Record (obtained from WebCMS) and a current course syllabus (two syllabi are preferred, when available).
-
The Request for Teaching Lab Status form, accompanied with the official COR and syllabi, should be submitted to either the Instruction Office, building 4 room 2465 or to Melissa Jaunal at
MJaunal@mtsac.edu
.
-
Submissions can be made in person or electronically.
-
In person submissions: Faculty submitting requests in person should bring two copies of the packet to the Instruction Office. Both packets will be date stamped upon submission and one copy will be returned to you for your records. The other packet will be forwarded to the Lab Parity Committee.
-
Electronic submissions: Faculty submitting requests electronically should submit the request, including the COR and syllabi, to Melissa Jaunal, recorder for the Lab Parity Committee, at
MJaunal@mtsac.edu
.
Please copy Terri Long
TLong@mtsac.edu
& Luisa Howell
LHowell@mtsac.edu
, co-chairs of the committee, on your electronic submission. Please use the delivery option of return receipt when submitting your request electronically.
Parity requests will be evaluated based on the existence of evidence on the COR and the syllabi using the bulleted list of criteria on the back side of the request form. The Lab Parity Committee will meet two times each month through the end of the fall semester and will begin meeting again in the spring. Requests will be processed in the order received. If a course is granted parity, the effective term will be the following primary term (spring or fall).
All faculty must follow these procedures; therefore pending lab parity requests, submitted prior to fall 2012, must be resubmitted using these procedures. In the case of courses that already have parity status, faculty will be informed of the need to submit these courses for review for continuance of parity to the Parity Committee once the course has been reviewed and approved by the Educational Design Committee. Faculty will be notified directly when these reviews are due.
