CISI 11 Course Image
This course helps the student develop basic alpha/numeric keyboarding skills on a personal computer; develops a straight-copy rate of 25 to 40 gross words a minute with a predetermined error limit; includes keyboarding of letters, tables and manuscripts.

Note: This course was renamed from COMP 1.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing CISI 11 - Computer Keyboarding will be able to:
  1. touch type effectively.
  2. effectively proofread a business document for accuracy and format.


CISI 11A Course Image
This course helps the student develop basic alpha/numeric keyboarding with skills on a personal computer; develops a straight-copy rate of 25 to 30 gross words a minute with a predetermined error limit.

Note: This course was renamed from COMP 1A.
(27 hours lecture;    Degree applicable, CSU)
(May be taken for option of letter grade or Pass / No Pass.)

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students completing CISI 11A - Computer Keyboarding will be able to touch type effectively.
  2. Students completing CISI 11A - Computer Keyboarding will be able to demonstrate effective application of punctuation and formattting rules.


CISI 11B Course Image
This course helps the student develop a straight-copy rate of 25 to 40 gross words a minute with a predetermined error limit and includes keyboarding of letters, tables, and manuscripts.

Note: This course was renamed from COMP 1B.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students completing CISI 11B - Computer Keyboarding will be able to touch type effectively.
  2. Students completing CISI 11B - Computer Keyboarding will be able to effectively proofread a business document for keying accuracy and format.


CISI 12 Course Image
This course helps the student develop computer keyboarding speed and accuracy with a proficiency standard upon completion of 35- 55 gross words a minute with a predetermined error limit.  Using word processing software, extensive instruction given for formatting of letters, memos, reports, tables and other related business documents.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing CISI 12 - Intermediate Computer Keyboarding will be able to:
  1. demonstrate the ability to keyboard at the rate of at least 40 words per minute on a 5-minute timed writing with 5 errors or less.
  2. demonstrate the ability to properly format business letters and memorandums.


CISI 21 Course Image
This course covers data entry using a microcomputer.  Includes intensive skill building on the ten-key pad and development of keyboarding skills for entering formatted and non-formatted text, both alphabetic and numeric, in a variety of business applications.

Students who repeat this course will improve skills through further instruction and practice.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing CISI 21 - Data Entry will be able to:
  1. operate the 10 key pad by touch effectively.
  2. demonstrate the ability to accurately input numerical and alphabetical data in formatted applications.


CISI 41 Course Image
Training and skill building in filing systems and procedures, proofreading, telephone techniques, faxing, emailing, and electronic calendaring of events, appointments and meetings.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing CISI 41 - Office Management Skills will be able to:
  1. properly file personal and business names.
  2. properly identify correct telephone techniques.
