This course provides thorough training in the skills and techniques of English, as
applied to business situations, with emphasis on effective paragraphs and memos.
Students who repeat this course will improve skills by further instruction and practice.

Students completing BUSO 5 - Business English will:
- be able to write effective business communications.
- have discovered new knowledge that relate to discipline, technical and human skills, enabling them to be productive members of the community.

This course teaches the student written communications including letters and memos
meeting a variety of situations in the business environment.
Includes writing of good news, bad news, sales, claims, and persuasive correspondence;
letters and resumes appropriate to job seeking and application; and practicing oral
skills as applied to job interviews and business reports.

Students completing BUSO 25 - Business Communications will:
- have discovered new knowledge that relate to discipline, technical and human skills, enabling them to be productive members of the community.
- have developed a genuine professional interest in topics related to the courses completed that will contribute toward motivation for life-long learning.
- have developed the ability to relate material from each course completed to their current and future professional needs, even if these needs fall into a different discipline.

This course helps the student develop a broad word command of new and specialized business
vocabulary for use in various businesses. The student will improve his/her
vocabulary to enhance written and oral communication.
|

Course Measurable Objectives:
- Develop word command of the new, specialized terminology that is now in common use among those who work in varied areas of business and industry.
- Use new and relevant words in both written and oral communication.
- Correctly define words by applying knowledge of prefix, suffix and root word meanings.
- Use the dictionary in locating definitions, identifying pronunciations and parts of speech.
- Identify appropriate synonyms using a thesaurus, online thesaurus and/or word processing language tool.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:
Students completing BUSO 96A - Business Vocabulary will:
- be able to properly identify words and their definitions.
- be able to do research and present an oral report using five new business terms.
