Hospitality Industry:
The hospitality industry is a 3.5 trillion dollar service sector within the global economy. It is an umbrella term for a broad variety of service industries including, but not limited to, hotels, food service, casinos, and tourism. The hospitality industry is very diverse and global. The industry is cyclical; dictated by the fluctuations that occur with an economy every year.
Although entry level jobs in this sector usually require little or no formal education, management, design, and culinary jobs often require college degrees or trade school certificates. These schools are known for their training in various aspects of the hospitality industry.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor:
-
Accommodation and food services makes up about 8.1 percent of all employment. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
-
Employment in the accommodation and food services industries is predicted to grow 18% between 2002 and 2012, adding more than 1.6 million new jobs. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
-
Of the 8,740,000 total workers employed in the accommodation and food services industry in 2003, 5,343,000 work full-time (61%), while 3,397,000 work part-time (39%). (Annual average for 2003, according to the Current Population Survey, a joint project of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Census Bureau)

Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals Scholarship
Each year our chapter raises money for the Student Scholarship Fund. The money
is raised through raffle ticket sales at each chapter meeting for which door prizes are
donated by chapter members.
The annual scholastic award is for a minumum of $500. The scholarship money
is awarded at the beginning of the Fall term to a designated hospitality student in order
to help with tuition fees, books, and supplies.
Our scholarship Chairperson helps create the criteria for choosing the designated student.
The process of choosing a student varies slightly from year to year but
generally includes an application process and an essay requirement.
