Introduction to intercultural communication in domestic and/or global contexts.   Influence of cultures, languages, and social pattern on how members of groups relate among themselves and with members of different ethnic and cultural groups.

Theory and application of effective communication across cultures.  Appreciation of diverse cultural voices.
(54 hours lecture;     Degree appropriate, CSU, UC)

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Synthesize the intercultural communication process.
  2. Compare and contrast the hazards and benefits of intercultural communication.
  3. Identify your identity.
  4. Explain verbal communication structure.
  5. Compare and contrast the functions of nonverbal communication.
  6. Explain how intercultural communication affects listening.
  7. Justify reasons why people from different cultures should accept one another.
