MATH 71A Course Image

MATH 71A - Intermediate Algebra
                    - First Half
                    (3 units)
Algebra of functions, polynomials, and rational expressions; functions and their graphs; systems of equations with two or three variables; absolute value and compound inequalities.   Covers some MATH 71 - Intermediate Algebra topics at a slower pace.  A student must complete both MATH 71A and MATH 71B - Intermediate Algebra to have taken the equivalent of MATH 71 - Intermediate Algebra , Intermediate Algebra.
 
(54 hours lecture;      Degree Applicable)
Prerequisite:   MATH 51   or  MATH 51B  or qualifying score on current department placement test.

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate a mastery of the relevant vocabulary.
  2. Define the concepts of relation, function, domain and range. Apply these concepts in answering related questions.
  3. Accurately perform algebraic operations on polynomials and rational expressions.
  4. Accurately solve first and second degree equations and inequalities, rational equations, and linear systems with two and three variables.
  5. Apply equation/inequality solution skills in a variety of applications.
