JAPN 1 Course Image
This course is intended for students without previous exposure to Japanese.   Begins to develop the ability to converse, read, and write in Japanese.   Includes the study of essentials of pronunciation, vocabulary, idioms, and grammatical structures.  Introduction to the Japanese culture.
(72 hours lecture;      Degree appropriate, CSU, UC)

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate comprehension of spoken and written learned material about basic topics.
  2. Make use of conversations to provide and obtain information about basic topics,using learned material.
  3. Express information about themselves and basic topics to an audience of classmate listeners.
  4. Read and write Hiragana at a novice level, i.e. make lists, compose short stories and dialogues.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of Japanese and English (or their own language).
  6. Demonstrate comprehension of some basic differences between native language structures and target language structures.
  7. Demonstrate comprehension of some basic cultural differences between their own culture and Japanese culture.
