This course is intended for students without previous exposure to Italian.
Includes the study of essentials of pronunciation, vocabulary, idioms, and grammatical
structures along with an introduction to Italian culture.
Begins to develop the ability to converse, read, and write in Italian.

Course Measurable Objectives:
- Demonstrate elementary comprehension of spoken and written material about simple personal topics.
- Express and obtain information about simple topics in basic conversations using simple present and past tenses.
- Express information about themselves and basic topics using simple past and present tenses, basic idioms, and irregular present tense.
- Write at an elementary level, i.e. make lists and compose simple stories and short dialogues using simple present and past tenses, basic articles, and basic prepositions.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of Italian and English (or their own language).
- Demonstrate comprehension of some basic differences between native language structures and target language structures.
- Demonstrate comprehension of some basic cultural differences between the student�s own culture and the Italian culture.
