FRCH 1 Course Image
This course is intended for students without previous exposure to French.   Begins to develop the ability to converse, read and write in French.   Emphasis is on oral proficiency.  Includes the study of principles of language learning, pronunciation, basic vocabulary and grammatical structures.   Extensive exposure to the cultures of French-speaking countries.
 
(72 hours lecture;      Degree appropriate, CSU, UC)

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate comprehension of spoken and written learned material about basic topics.
  2. Practice conversations and provide and obtain information about basic topics, using learned material.
  3. Express information about him/herself and basic topics to classmates.
  4. Write at novice level, i.e., make lists and compose short notes and dialogues.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of French and English (or his/her own language).
  6. Demonstrate understanding of some basic differences between native language structures and French language structures.
  7. Formulate and illustrate some basic cultural aspects of several francophone cultures.
  8. Evaluate some basic cultural differences between his/her own and another culture.
