Building and zoning codes, including code requirements related to architectural design and
construction documentation. Process of obtaining design approvals and building
permits from proper authorities having jurisdiction.

Advisory Prerequisite:
ARCH 11 - Architectural Drawing
or equivalent experience.

Course Measurable Objectives:
- Determine the applicable current building and zoning code titles/editions for any given location.
- Interpret and apply common land-use, zoning and development regulations of a common building project in a given location of California, USA, city.
- Interpret and apply applicable building codes to determine building size, height, envelope and exiting requirements of a building design based on type of occupancy, type of construction and location on property.
- Use basic zoning and building code requirements with other design criteria in non-complex architectural design and construction documents.
- Follow typical government procedures in obtaining zoning approval and building permits of simulated building project.
