This course helps the student develop basic alpha/numeric keyboarding skills on a personal computer; develops a straight-copy rate of 25 to 40 gross words a minute with a predetermined error limit; includes keyboarding of letters, tables and manuscripts.

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to touch type using correct finger placement.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to keyboard at the rate of 25-40 words per minute on 2- and 3-minute timings.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to proofread for accuracy and format.
  4. Interpret and use proofreader's marks.
  5. Utilize correct formats to accurately keyboard letters and short manuscripts.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to center tabulated documents both vertically and horizontally.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students completing COMP 1 - Computer Keyboarding will be able to touch type effectively at the completion of COMP 1
  2. Students completing COMP 1 - Computer Keyboarding will be able to effectively proofread a business document for accuracy and format.
