This course provides the students with a functional approach to personal finance, including
budget systems, consumer credit, health care and insurance, debt collection systems,
status obligation, accumulating reserves. The course examines short-term and
long-term financial goals. Applicable for personal and professional use.
Note: Students may not earn credit for both
FCS 80 and
BUSA 71 - Financial Planning

Course Measurable Objectives:
- Assess balance between various sources of income, current living expenses, extra expenditures, past debts, accumulation of reserves for emergency, special purposes, investment.
- Analyze the operation of a personal money management system and apply to the process a monthly and annual budget.
- Evaluate the efficacy of the various kinds of financial institutions, the types of accounts and the services which they offer to the consumer.
- Develop critical thinking and problem solving skills to evaluate and develop personal financial plans.
- Explain the fundamental investment principles for the small investor, and describe and analyze information sources for the small investor.
- Evaluate the use and sources of credit for the consumer purchases.
- Explain the basic elements of tax planning and prepare basic Federal Income Tax 1040 and 1040EZ forms.

Students completing FCS 80 - Financial Planning will be able to:
- develop a personal and/or family budget.
- employ strategies for the wise use of credit.
- evaluate the importance of early retirement planning.
