Course Measurable Objectives:
- Compare and contrast the differences between retail and manufacturing/design as practiced in international and domestic trade.
- Evaluate the differences and similarities in organizational structure and functions between major retailers.
- Describe the differences between department and specialty store retailing, and niche retailing.
- Determine the sources of inspiration used by retailers and manufacturers/designers.
- Measure the differences and similarities between branded and private label merchandising.
- Compare and contrast the use of licensing as a means of brand extension.
- Determine the differences and similarities between Haute Couture and ready-to-wear.
- Assess the importance of special events and promotion to retail and manufacturer/designers.
- Synthesize the importance of historic costume and textiles to current business trends.

Students enrolled in FASH 92 - Field Studies - Fashion Capitals:
- will attend all appointments and exhibit understanding of fashion industry by actively participating with relevant questions.
- will be able to develop a written analysis comparing and contrasting retail or design in foreign capitals verses USA.
