This is an introductory course in computer security.  The course provides awareness for all computer users to protect user accounts and computer systems from attacks.

The course provides hands-on projects to illustrate security software and hardware configuration.
(27 hours lecture,  27 hours lab,    Degree applicable)

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Configure personal firewall.
  2. Back up critical files with software.
  3. Perform security check with Microsoft Security Analyzer.
  4. Install and manage Microsoft security patches.
  5. Install and configure wireless network.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing CISS 11 - Practical Computer Security will:
  1. gain a non-technical foundation of computer security, with discussion of different types of security attacks and defenses that every student can use.
  2. be able to apply practical security principals by reading the book and completing hands on activities.
