This course teaches the concepts and skills needed in planning and installing the Linux operating
system and its graphical user interface.
Topics covered include:
- using Linux Shells and system administration commands
- managing user accounts
- installing hardware and software
- creating scripts to automate system administration
- maintaining file systems and system resources

Course Measurable Objectives:
- Select, plan and install a Linux operating system distribution in a computer.
- Install/employ an x-window graphical interface.
- Evaluate, choose and manage hardware and software for use in a Linux environment.
- Recognize Linux shells and how to customize them.
- Examine the role of a Linux system administrator.
- Evaluate and install/employ efficient manage- ment of user accounts and groups.
- Select and configure tools to manage Linux system resources.
- Create scripts and automated procedures.
- Design and manage printing services and other local services.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:
Students completing CISN 31 - Linux Operating System will be able to:
- install a well-known Linux distribution as a workstation operating system.
- connect their Linux workstation to a network and the internet and run a word processing program.
