This course covers the creation, scope, and administrative function of federal bankruptcy proceedings and arrangements.   Topics include wage earner plans and insolvency proceedings.
(54 hours lecture;      Degree appropriate, CSU)

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Compare types of bankruptcy proceedings: liquidation bankruptcy and reorganization bankruptcy.
  2. Describe bankruptcy discharge and exemptions.
  3. Analyze legal forms for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, liquidation and discharge of debt.
  4. Identify problems with preferences and fraudulent conveyances.
  5. Analyze legal forms for a Chapter 11 business reorganization.
  6. Analyze legal forms for a Chapter 13 individual reorganization.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing PLGL 44 - Bankruptcy Law will be able to:
  1. successfully prepare a bankruptcy petition.
