This course covers job search skills including preparation of professional resumes and cover letters, interviewing techniques, networking, application of these skills in beginning the search for paralegal employment, and paralegal and attorney ethics.
 
(36 hours lecture;      Degree appropriate)

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Analyze life experiences and synthesize them into an effective paralegal resume.
  2. Evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses in order to maximize performing in a job interview.
  3. Apply skills learned through the paralegal program in effectively networking with attorneys and other paralegals in order to create more job opportunities.
  4. Apply job search skills to actual search for paralegal employment.
  5. Analyze California's ethical rules governing the conduct of attorneys and paralegals, and apply those rules to hypothetical situations.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing PLGL 38 - Employment and Ethical Issues in Paralegalism will:
  1. be able to prepare an employment portfolio.
  2. understand unauthorized practice of law.
