This course is designed to provide the student with actual on-the-job experience in the paralegal profession which relates to student's classroom based learning.   Placement is not guaranteed but assistance is provided by the paralegal faculty.   A minimum of five hours per week of supervised work (minimum 75 paid clock hours or 60 non-paid clock hours per semester) is required.  Students who repeat this course will improve skills through further instruction and practice.

(May be taken for Credit / No Credit only.  May be taken two times for credit)

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Employ all tasks to the satisfaction of the supervising office attorney as evidenced by an instructor-prepared rating form.
  2. Develop a log to include at least one page for each week's activity. The log will relate specific legal concepts and practices to the activity of the week. This log shall meet college-level grammar and content standards.
  3. Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal and communication skills which will be measured on an instructor prepared rating form.
  4. Prepare a concise self-evaluation of personal paralegal skill strengths and weaknesses for review with the instructor of the course.
  5. Prepare a cover letter and resume that focuses on breadth of experience and marketable skills.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


At the conclusion of the internship the paralegal intern will:
  1. comprehend the nature of a career as a paralegal, including application of paralegal knowledge and skills learned in the classroom, appreciation of proper office decorum and behavior, responsibility for being prompt and punctual, and application of high standards when generating work product.
  2. be able to prepare a new resume which contains the internship and lists skills developed at the internship. The intern will also write a sample cover letter which emphasizes the internship experience.
