The CIS department offers these two 'Input Processing' Courses:
  • CISI 11 - Computer Keyboarding
  • CISI 41 - Office Management Skills

CISI 11 Course Image
This course helps the student develop basic alpha/numeric keyboarding skills on a personal computer; develops a straight-copy rate of 25 to 40 gross words a minute with a predetermined error limit; includes keyboarding of letters, tables and manuscripts.

Note: This course was renamed from COMP 1.

(Degree applicable, CSU)

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to touch type using correct finger placement.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to keyboard at the rate of 25-40 words per minute on 2- and 3-minute timings.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to proofread for accuracy and format.
  4. Interpret and use proofreader's marks.
  5. Utilize correct formats to accurately keyboard letters and short manuscripts.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to center tabulated documents both vertically and horizontally.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing CISI 11 - Computer Keyboarding will be able to:
  1. touch type effectively.
  2. effectively proofread a business document for accuracy and format.

CISI 41 Course Image
Training and skill building in filing systems and procedures, proofreading, telephone techniques, faxing, emailing, and electronic calendaring of events, appointments and meetings.

Note: This course was renamed from COMP 28.

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate the application of the rules, procedures, and techniques for alphabetic, numeric, subject card, and correspondence filing.
  2. Identify and correct errors using proper proofreaders' marks in preparation of the final copy.
  3. Identify professional telephone techniques for courteous and efficient telephone use.
  4. Demonstrate the proper use of electronic calendaring by scheduling events, appointments, and meetings efficiently.
  5. Identify proper methods for electronic communication (etiquette, sending, receiving, and managing of e-mails and faxes.)

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing CISI 41 - Office Management Skills will be able to:
  1. properly file personal and business names.
  2. properly identify correct telephone techniques.
