Director: Bruce Rogers

Hear the Chamber Singers

Formed in 1994, the Chamber Singers are the main performing choir at Mt. SAC. This elite, mixed-voice choral ensemble consists of 36 auditioned singers who perform works from the Renaissance through new works of the 21st Century. For more than a decade, the Chamber Singers have literally traveled the world and earned notable distinction, having consistently won numerous state, national and international honors. They have received special performance invitations, including:
  • the 1996 California Music Educators Association Convention (CMEA) at the Santa Clara Convention Center
  • the 1996 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Western Division Student Symposium, held at Chapman University
  • the 1998 ACDA Western Regional Convention in Reno
  • the 1999 ACDA State Convention at the Ontario Convention Center
  • a tour of Europe during the summer of 2000 which included concerts in Berlin, Prague, Salzburg and the "International Musical Eisteddfod Competition" in Llangollen, Wales
  • the 2001 ACDA National Convention in San Antonio, Texas
  • the 2002 ACDA Western Regional Convention in Hawaii
  • a concert tour in 2003 of Bulgaria, which included an invitation to compete at the "Grand Prix Choir Competition" in Varna
  • a concert tour of Austria and Italy in 2004, which included an invitation to compete at the "European Grand Prix Choir Competition" in Gorizia, Italy
  • the 2005 ACDA National Convention in Los Angeles
  • a special guest performance in 2005 at Carnegie Hall in New York City
  • two extensive tours of California, a tour of western Canada, two performance cruises; and
  • invitational performances at numerous University Choral Festivals
While performing at the "International Musical Eisteddfod Competition" in Wales, the Chamber Singers competed against 100 choirs from around the world and received more awards than any other competing choir, including first-place awards in the Youth Choir and Chamber Choir categories and a second-place finish in the Choir of the World competition.
Their second European tour included the "Grand Prix Choir Competition" in Varna, Bulgaria, where the Chamber Singers won first-place honors in both the Chamber Choir and Large Mixed categories. They also won the overall first-place "Grand Prix" prize for best choir. The Chamber Singers have been honored with the opportunity to combine with the Mountainside Master Chorale for performances of Orff’s Carmina Burana, Poulenc’s Gloria and Vaughn Williams Dona Nobis Pacem.
They also toured the British Isles, were featured in the New Regency film titled, Goodbye Lover, and were honored with a special invitation to perform a concert at Carnegie Hall in May of 2005.
Auditions: Conducted the first week of the Fall semester.
