In addition to Steve Wilkerson’s own recordings, he has recorded with Shelley Manne, for PAUSA Records and The Frank Capp Juggernaut Band for CONCORD Records. His solo on Soft as Velvet was picked as one of the best of the Juggernaut recordings on the Concord album of the same name. A former student of both Phil Woods, Cannonball Adderley, as well as Donald Sinta for classical saxophone, he has also performed with the likes of: Clark Terry, Mel Torme, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Herbie Hancock, the Temptations, Barbra Streisand and has appeared on the Ryan Seacrest show with Barry Manilow.
He was named Outstanding Alumni from Pittsburg State University in Kansas. In 2004, he was named “Outstanding Teacher” by the Religious Institute and was listed in Who’s Who of American College Professors in 2004 and 2005. He has authored articles in DownBeat and The Saxophone Journal. His educational DVD, The Art of Jazz Saxophone is a top seller distributed by Hal Leonard Publications.
Wilkerson has been an artist/clinician for leading woodwind manufacturers, including Yamaha, Keilworth and B & S Instruments.
