William McIntosh has been conducting choirs in the Southern California area for more than 20 years. The last six of these have been at Mt. SAC, where he conducts the Concert Choir, Women’s Ensemble, Frontline (vocal jazz ensemble), and the award-winning men’s ensemble, Fermata Nowhere. His experience also includes directing choirs at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, Biola University, the First Baptist Church of Downey, and the First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton.
Choirs under McIntosh’s direction have won numerous awards and have received superior ratings throughout California. These include three DownBeat magazine awards for recordings produced in 1994 - 1998, and an appearance at the International Association of Jazz Educator’s convention in 1995.
More recently, Fermata Nowhere became the first community college ensemble to advance to the National Finals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, where they placed second from an initial field of more than 300 colleges and universities in 2004. In addition, Frontline took second place in the college/four year university category at the 2004 Reno Jazz Festival, the largest jazz festival in the West.
McIntosh is an active member of American Choral Directors Association, Southern California Vocal Association, Music Educators National Conference, International Association of Jazz Education, Pi Lambda Theta, and is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
