Jason Chevalier is a highly regarded and critically acclaimed band instructor and director. Since joining the Mt. SAC faculty in August 2000 as Director of Bands, the Instrumental Music Program has more than tripled in size and is now distinguished as one of California's leading collegiate band programs.
Bands under Mr. Chevalier's direction have received regional and national acclaim, having performed in the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion/Los Angeles Music Center, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, the Sydney (Australia) Opera House, and New York's Carnegie Hall (2005 Wind Band Festival). In March 2006, the Mt. SAC Wind Ensemble was honored to perform at the prestigious College Band Directors National Association’s (CBDNA) Regional Conference at the University of Nevada, Reno.
The program Mr. Chevalier developed at Upland High School was regarded as one of the premier programs in the West. One of the musical highlights of his tenure there included the Wind Ensemble's performance at the National Concert Band Festival in Indiana.
Mr. Chevalier is a member of the CBDNA, the Music Educators National Conference, and the College Music Society. He has served in elected offices on the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association and the San Bernardino County Music Educators Association (SCSBOA). Mr. Chevalier is also an active SCSBOA adjudicator and is frequently sought out as a guest conductor.
In 2003, he received the “Educator of Distinction Award” from the Mt. SAC Associated Students, and he has also received a “Citation of Excellence” from the National Band Association.
