Dustin Barr is
a Professor of Music and Director of Bands
at Mt. San Antonio College. Joining the
faculty in 2008, Barr has continued to
develop the thriving instrumental music
program. He currently serves as the Conductor
of the Wind Ensemble, Director of the Chamber
Winds program and teaches courses in Music
Appreciation. Barr served as Associate
Conductor of the Wind Ensemble at Mt. SAC
prior to his current appointment, appearing
with the Wind Ensemble at the Walt Disney
Concert Hall in Los Angeles and on a performance
tour to Hawaii. In 2010, Barr was selected
as one of three winners of the National
Band Association’s prestigious Young
Conductor Mentor Project. He will, consequently,
guest conduct the Prairie Wind Ensemble
at the Music for All / Bands of America
National Convention this summer.
Prior to his arrival at Mt. SAC, Barr served
as Principal Conductor of the University
Band, Director of the Titan Varsity Band,
and Assistant Conductor of the Wind Symphony
while a graduate student at CSU, Fullerton.
Under his leadership, the University Band
doubled in size since its humble beginnings
in 2006 and established a tradition of
artistic excellence. He also revived the
athletic band program, turning the Titan
Varsity Band into one of the premier bands
of its kind in the state. Barr also served
in the public school system at Esperanza
High School in Anaheim, CA where his ensembles
consistently received high acclaim at many
local and regional festivals.
Barr holds
a Master of Music degree in Instrumental
Conducting from CSUF, where he was a student
of Dr. Mitchell Fennell. He received a
Bachelor of Music degree, also from CSUF,
graduating as a Presidential Scholar with
a dual emphasis in Trumpet Performance
and Music Education. He has completed additional
symposium studies in conducting with Michael
Haithcock, Jerry Junkin, Kevin Sedatole,
Craig Kirchhoff, Gary Hill and Steven Davis.
As a trumpeter, Barr currently performs
in the Orange County Wind Symphony, has
been an active musician for the Disneyland
Resort, and has appeared as a featured
soloist at the Jeju Island International
Music Festival in South Korea. Barr holds
professional memberships in the College
Band Directors National Association, Southern
California School Band and Orchestra Association,
The National Band Association, Phi Mu Alpha
Sinfonia, Pi Kappa Lambda and is in demand
as a guest clinician, conductor, adjudicator,
and trumpeter throughout Southern California.
