The Mt. SAC Chamber Winds is a small ensemble that is composed of the top students from the Wind Ensemble. The Chamber Winds serves as musical ambassadors for the instrumental music program at Mt. SAC, traveling to and recruiting at local high schools, in addition to performing at events on the college campus. These talented students perform solos, duets, and small-ensemble works that range from the Classic period through the Modern.
Auditions: Conducted during the first week of each semester.
The Wind Ensemble is Mt. SAC's largest instrumental group, performing a wide array of wind band literature. Members of this ensemble give formal performances each semester and host festivals throughout the year.
Over the last four years this ensemble has grown from 20 students and evolved into a dynamic and expressive organization, known for its musical excellence. The Wind Ensemble has performed at local, regional, and international events, including a recent performance at the Orange County Performing Arts Center and the California State University, Fresno Collegiate Wind Band Festival.
In March 2005, the Wind Ensemble participated in the New York Wind Band Festival, which included a performance at the world-famous Carnegie Hall. In March 2006, the Wind Ensemble will perform at the College Band Director's National Association (CBDNA) Western/Northwestern conference in Reno, Nev.
To help further the cause of new music, the Wind Ensemble has participated in the commissioning of new works as well.
