This Mt. San Antonio College Art Gallery
web site commemorates
the remarkable artists who have exhibited
at Mt. San Antonio College for more than
50 years.
The Art Gallery exhibits a diverse
array of art forms and styles that represent the unique vision
of the contributing exhibitors. As Art Gallery
Director and Curator of Exhibitions at Mt. SAC, I have the
distinct privilege of following the path of other colleagues
by emulating their dedication to the endowment of the educational
and cultural life on this campus and the surrounding community.
From
its inception in i954, our Gallery program has consistently
complemented this enduring process by presenting traditional
and contemporary art in fluid and dynamic presentations that
nurture pluralist values and traditions and addresses a multitude
of multicultural issues and concerns. With
the support of our campus community, the Art Gallery team
has been able to advocate and stimulate a general interest
in art through special programs and events, making these
exhibitions readily accessible to the widest possible audience.
Our
commitment to diversity is demonstrated through the display
of numerous dynamic exhibitions, celebrating various cultures,
means and media. Regardless of our program specialty in contemporary
art, we continually examine historical and cultural influences
through presentation of events and exhibitions such as the
Tillett Tapestry, the Monks of the Dreprung Monastery Mandala
Sand Painting, and Norman Rockwell's view of the American
Homefront.
As an artist and educator, I hope to be continually
instrumental in instilling students with ambition by presenting
them with an array of exhibitions by established artists.
To motivate these emerging artists, Mt. SAC's art program
offers an opportunity to exhibit their artwork in
the gallery. Furthermore, the new Exhibition Design/Gallery
Operation certificate will enhance the College's educational
mission by delivering a unique
and excellent vocational/educational opportunity.
My experience
as an art gallery director and curator has convinced me that
exposure to art, in any given form and context, is a humanistic
necessity. My heartfelt aspiration for future generations
is to recognize and fill that need by appreciating
the values and the influences that creativity offers to our
day-to-day lives.
