Judy Chen Haggerty was elected to the Mt. SAC Board of Trustees in 2001 and was reelected in 2005, 2009, and most recently in 2013. She is the first Asian-American to serve on the board as both a trustee and former president (two terms). She represents Area 6, which covers Rowland Heights, Diamond Bar, and a portion of Walnut.
Trustee Chen Haggerty has been a practicing attorney since 1986 and a law professor at Rio Hondo College since 2001. For nearly 30 years, she has legally advised many domestic and international companies and has focused on educational and healthcare consulting in recent years.
At the state level, Trustee Chen Haggerty has served on the California Community College Trustee Officers Nominating Committee. She represented Mt. SAC in the CLASS Initiative (California Leadership Alliance for Student Success), a statewide project funded by the James Irvine Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. She has been serving on the Advisory Committee on Education Services (ACES) of the Community College League of California since 2010 and was the co-chair of ACES 2013-2014. Trustee Chen Haggerty has been an active evaluation team member of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) and has participated in numerous accreditation projects since 2011.
At the national level, Trustee Chen Haggerty served on the Charles Kennedy Equity Awards Committee from 2013 to 2014.
Since 1983, Trustee Chen Haggerty has compiled a long list of activities in community services, the educational arena, and workforce training for business entities within the diverse San Gabriel Valley. She is an advocate for diversity and equality for the underserved. She currently serves on the governing board of Whittier Medical Center. Her 30-year leadership role in community service includes: founding director of FORUS Foundation (Rowland Unified School District), founding president of Rowland Chinese Association, executive board member for the Mt. SAC Foundation, Advisory Committee member of the Mt. SAC Regional Health Occupations Committee, Advisory Committee member of the Mt. SAC Paralegal Program, Vice President of the Rowland Heights Community Coordinating Council, board member of the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Booster Club, member of the Walnut Valley Rotary Club, and 10-year board member of the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital.
