...he has trained students who are now producers and writers on such shows as Criminal Minds , How to Get Away with Murder , and Ice Road Truckers , as well as editors and crew members of other shows including Wipeout , Rachel Ray , The Bachelor , the KTLA Rose Parade, and many more.

Dan Smith has been teaching students in film and video production since 1991, and has taught full time at Mt. San Antonio College since 1998. During that time he has trained students who are now producers and writers on such shows as Criminal Minds, How to Get Away with Murder, and Ice Road Truckers, as well as editors and crew members of other shows including Wipeout, Rachel Ray, The Bachelor, the KTLA Rose Parade, and many more. He served as an officer of the Academic Senate for nine years, most recently as President, and has served as an accreditation team member for the ACCJC. He originated and led the C-ID initiative for the AS Transfer degree in Film, TV, and Electronic Media, created the first Reality Show Production class in the nation with former students working in the field, and worked to continue and revitalize remote production and video engineering training at the college. Prior to teaching at Mt. SAC he sold two feature film screenplays, served as a camera man on two other features, acted as a cinematographer for music videos and advertising clients including Sizzler, camera and sound crew for live broadcast sports, produced award-winning medical videos, served as cable TV station manager, and held other positions in the industry for 15 years. He has also worked as a performer and playwright in the theater, with 34 production credits, and still photographer with credits including JAMA and the LA Times.
