Mt. SAC Art Gallery Launches Season with “Jewels of Color”
The Mt. San Antonio College Art Gallery will launch its 2007-08 season with an impressionistic exhibit, “Jewels of Color: Plein Air Paintings by Betty J. Billups,” which runs Sept. 25 through Oct. 25 at the Mt. SAC Art Gallery. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
Working from her Idaho ranch, Billups paints in the plein air style, the French impressionism popular in the late 19th Century that engaged mainly in representing observed effects of outdoor light and atmosphere. Billups travels the all over the country capturing vibrant scenes and landscapes using the brilliant colors of nature. She was also commissioned to paint a mural of the surrounding San Antonio Mountains (Mt. Baldy) to adorn Mt. SAC’s Founders Hall.
A special opening reception will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, 4 to 6 p.m., in the Art Gallery preceded by an artist’s lecture at 3 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Tuesday nights, 5 to 7:30 p.m.
