Mt. SAC to Host Career Expo
Walnut, CA ... Mt. San Antonio College will host its Career Expo 2001, an opportunity for high school and college students and their parents to receive career information from growing industries, on Thursday, October 18, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Mt. SAC Student Life Center.
Career Expo 2001 will focus on various careers, including careers in the arts and entertainment, automotive, aviation, computer and information technology, building trades, hospitality and tourism, law enforcement, medical, and telecommunication fields. Careers featured at the exposition typically require two years or less of college or training.
Information on educational requirements and career counseling will also be available from employers, Mt. SAC professionals, and the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
In addition to the event’s host Mt. SAC, the event is co-sponsored by Altmans Winnebago, the Automobile Club of Southern California, L.A. Works, the National Hot Rod Association, the San Gabriel Valley School-to-Career Partnership, and the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys Tech Prep Consortium.
Several local school districts will participate in the event, including Azusa, Baldwin Park, Bonita, Charter Oak, Hacienda-La Puente, Rowland, and West Covina, as well the East San Gabriel Valley ROP, La Puente Valley ROP, San Antonio ROP, and Citrus College.

- 30 -Mt. SAC Theater to Hold Auditions for 'Threepenny Opera'
Walnut, CA ... The Mt. San Antonio College Theater Program will hold auditions for its production of The Threepenny Opera on Monday, October 8, 7 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center Studio Theater. Auditions are open to the public.
The Mt. SAC production of The Threepenny Opera is auditioning for "actors who sing," with ages ranging from 18 to 50. Those who audition should prepare a song to sing and should bring sheet music to the audition. Piano accompaniment will be provided, and call backs will be held October 9.
Rehearsals for The Threepenny Opera will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 7 to 10 p.m., starting October 10, and perusal scripts are available through the Mt. SAC Library circulation desk.
This Mt. SAC production of The Threepenny Opera, directed by Gary Davis with musical direction from Tom Shelton, will run for two weekends, beginning November 30.

- 30 -Mt. SAC Hosts Working Women's Conference
Walnut, CA ... The Mt. San Antonio College chapter of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) and the college’s Professional Development Council will host the Working Women’s Fall Conference 2001, "Working Toward Health, Wealth, and Happiness," to be held Friday, October 5, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Mt. SAC. This conference—a full day of workshops, presentations, and networking—is open to the public, men and women.
International nutriution speaker Jackie Harvey will deliver the keynote address, "The Power of FOCUS: The Key to Having It All." Harvey will speak on how successful focus in life can lead to a balanced life. She is the radio host of Your Health Connection, is a business trainer, and works in partnership with nurses, doctors, and health care practioners.
Other speakers include Director of The Training Source at Mt. SAC Gary Kay, who will speak on "Double Your Money in Six Months." Kay has 15 years of experience in banking as a branch manager, commercial lender, and financial planner. Mt. San Jacinto College Dean of Instruction Laurel Jones will speak on "Happiness—The Ultimate Noun." Jones, who is currently working on a book of historical models of emotional intelligence, was previously a faculty member in Mt. SAC’s Learning Assistance Center for 12 years.
